F1 Historical Performance Dashboard (1950-2025)

The Business Question: How can we synthesize 75 years of raw racing data into actionable, objective performance metrics?

Project Overview: This project transforms complex, historical Formula 1 data into a dynamic, interactive decision-making tool. Using native Microsoft Excel functionalities, I executed end-to-end data processing to clean and model decades of race results. To provide deeper analytical value, I engineered custom Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)—such as Grid Delta and Reliability-Adjusted Points Per Race (RAPPR)—to isolate individual driver skill from mechanical variance. The resulting dashboard utilizes advanced PivotTables and Slicers to allow users to intuitively explore macro-level sport trends and micro-level driver analytics.

01

Career Race Wins

This view establishes the fundamental baseline for historical success. It tracks career race wins across all seasons, highlighting the top 25 all-time drivers and visualizing their absolute ability to convert race weekends into victories.

02

Pole-to-Win Conversion

A specialized metric designed to analyze clutch performance under pressure. By measuring how often a driver secures a win when starting from pole position, this tab evaluates their ability to maintain a lead and execute race strategy from the front of the pack.

03

Grid Delta (Racecraft)

This tab quantifies racing intelligence by calculating the difference between a driver's starting grid position and their final classification. By tracking average positions gained or lost, this metric successfully separates a car's raw qualifying speed from a driver's actual overtaking ability.

04

Reliability-Adjusted Points Per Race (RAPPR)

Standard point systems often unfairly penalize drivers for mechanical failures outside their control. The custom RAPPR metric isolates true driver performance by only calculating scoring efficiency across races where the driver was officially classified, filtering out mechanical anomalies.

05

Historical Evolution & Reliability

Taking a macro-level view of the sport, this tab tracks the growth of Formula 1 from a 7-race calendar in 1950 to a 24-race global season. It plots these expansion metrics alongside historical DNF (Did Not Finish) rates to visualize the dramatic engineering and reliability improvements across different eras.

06

Constructor Win Share

This visual focuses on engineering superiority and team dominance. By calculating the percentage of total season wins captured by a single constructor, users can clearly identify and explore historic stretches of absolute dominance, such as the Mercedes Hybrid Era.

Head-to-Head Driver Battle

The ultimate comparative analytics tool. This dynamic interface leverages interactive data validation to let users select any two drivers in F1 history. The dashboard instantly generates a side-by-side analysis of their vital metrics, providing objective, data-driven answers to historic rivalries.
